The Alpha Windows difference

The right door for your property. Fitted without shortcuts.

A door is not a commodity. The right choice depends on the opening, the character of the property, how the space behind it is used, and what you are actually trying to achieve — better security, a connection to the garden, or a front entrance that does justice to the home behind it.

We visit every property ourselves before quoting anything. We bring samples, we take accurate measurements, and we give you an honest recommendation rather than defaulting to the most expensive option or the product with the highest margin. We have been doing this across South Buckinghamshire and East Berkshire since 2003. Every door we fit carries our name.

The process

Getting started is simpler than you think

Here's exactly what happens after you get in touch.

Get in touch

Tell us what you are thinking

Fill in the short form below or give us a call on 01753 663663. There is no obligation and no sales process triggered by making contact — just let us know what you are considering and we will take it from there.

We visit your home

A proper look at your property

We visit at a time that suits you — usually within a few days. We measure every opening, assess what is there, and talk through your options honestly. We bring samples so decisions can be made against your actual property in natural light.

Your written quote

Clear costs, no surprises

We follow up with a written quote that covers everything involved. No hidden charges, no items that appear later. There is no pressure to decide on the day and no uninvited follow-up calls. You take as long as you need.

Installation

Done properly, left tidy

Our fitters work through each opening one at a time so your home is never left exposed. Furniture and flooring are protected throughout. Old frames are removed and disposed of. Before we leave, everything is tested and you are walked through the result.

Why your door choice matters

The difference a well-specified door makes

Security

The first line of defence, properly specified

A front door fitted with a multi-point locking system and an anti-snap cylinder is substantially more resistant to forced entry than most of the doors it replaces. For bi-fold and patio doors, toughened laminated glazing and multi-point locking provide comparable security to any other external door in the home.

Warmth

A door that does not undermine the rest of your insulation

Heat lost through a poorly sealed or inadequately insulated door is continuous — it does not stop when the door is closed. A well-specified composite door with a dense foam core, or an aluminium bi-fold with thermally broken profiles and compression seals, addresses this at source. The difference is often noticeable from the first cold morning after installation.

Space

Bi-fold and patio doors change how a room works

The distinction between a wide folding or sliding door and a standard patio door is not primarily about the amount of light — it is about what happens to the room when it is open. For kitchen-diners and rear extensions across South Bucks and East Berks, the right rear door is frequently the element that determines how well the space works every day.

Appearance

Every door is seen twice — arriving and leaving

A well-chosen front door improves the kerb appeal of the whole property. A poorly specified or tired rear door undermines everything else that has been done to the garden-facing elevation. Getting the style, colour and hardware right matters as much as the performance specification — we discuss both during every home visit.

Common questions

What homeowners ask us about doors

It depends on the opening, the character of the property, and how you plan to use the space. A composite door suits a front entrance on almost any property type. Bi-fold and patio doors are determined more by the width of the opening and the room layout behind it. French doors suit more modest openings and period properties particularly well. We discuss all of this during the home visit and give you an honest recommendation rather than defaulting to the most expensive option.

For most properties, replacing a front door is covered by permitted development rights and does not require a planning application. The exceptions are listed buildings, where listed building consent is required for any external alteration, and conservation areas — including parts of Beaconsfield Old Town and Windsor — where material or style changes may need approval from Buckinghamshire Council. We identify what applies to your property during the visit and advise on how to proceed before any work is agreed.

Modern composite doors are significantly more secure than timber or standard uPVC alternatives. They feature multi-point locking systems that engage the frame at multiple points simultaneously, reinforced panels, and anti-snap cylinders as standard. The glass-reinforced polymer skin is far more resistant to impact than a hollow uPVC panel or a softwood timber door. Homes with composite doors certified to PAS 24 see measurably lower rates of successful forced entry.

This concern applies to poorly specified or incorrectly fitted systems, not to well-engineered products installed properly. A thermally broken aluminium system with compression seals throughout, installed in a frame that is set accurately level and plumb, performs to current building regulations and will not be draughty in normal use. If you have existing bi-fold doors that are draughty, the cause is almost always the product quality, the installation, or accumulated wear — and it is usually addressable without full replacement.

All our door installations come with a 10-year guarantee as standard. As FENSA registered installers, every installation is certified to current building regulations and registered with your local authority automatically — which matters when you come to sell your home.
